The below tours are suggested for the afternoon of your arrival in Frankfort as insight and perspective into Kentucky's rich heritage.
"Spirits" come in various packages, tour two historic homes in Frankfort's downtown district: Liberty Hall (c. 1796) and the Orlando Brown House (c. 1835) both built by John Brown, one of Kentucky's first U.S. Senators. Senator Brown and his family were involved in both wine and bourbon making in early Kentucky. The grounds surrounding the two houses include a perennial garden that leads down to the Kentucky River. The History Center, opened in 1999, is a state-of-the-art museum designed to preserve the memories of Kentuckians and the challenges they faced in building the Commonwealth. The Kentucky Journey permanent museum exhibits trace Kentucky history from prehistoric times, to the modern day Commonwealth. The center hosts a variety of changing exhibits, Kentucky Hall of Governors and 1792 Gift Shop.
